OVERVIEW

We have developed a framework for sustainability assessment to make explicit the sustainability outcomes being targeted, using aligned indicators for assessing performance. This can be used by primary producers and organisations as a basis for developing their own framework.

The NZSD framework design is locally grounded (to guide best practices of special relevance to New Zealand society, ecology and land care) but also internationally relevant (taking into account theoretical concepts, sustainability frameworks, and indicators used internationally) to ensure that overseas consumers can benchmark and verify the sustainability credentials of New Zealand exported products.

The NZSD framework is based on FAO's SAFA (Sustainability Assessment of Food and Agriculture system) framework.  For more information on this click here.
